Work starts soon for a major scheme of houses and flats in Chitungwiza on Tantallon Farm, with the developers fulfilling the Government’s requirements for services before construction begins, a Cabinet Minister has said.
Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe yesterday visited the site to see what the Nyore Nyore developers were doing to meet set standards
“In a meeting chaired by Vice President Kembo Mohadi, we agreed that local authorities must comprehend that they cannot undertake construction without consulting the relevant ministries. It is essential to seek guidance and clarity before proceeding with any projects,” Minister Garwe stated.
He distanced the Government from past unplanned developments.
“We have nothing to do with supporting land barons or unscrupulous individuals who sell land in open spaces.”
He reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing every Zimbabwean with shelter.
“There are plans for the construction of 250 000 properties, with 40 percent designated for high rises.
“We ensure access to shelter, including developments in the Donoto area, which is backed by the Government. There is no need to be bribed by land barons,” he added.
He highlighted that the new initiative by Mr Phillip Chiyangwa contributed to President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which aims to develop the economy through infrastructure, including double-storey buildings.
“The new administration values all citizens and respects the Constitution, recognising housing as a fundamental right. We must not accept illegal land for construction,” he said.
Minister Garwe said the Nyore Nyore housing initiative responded to the President’s call to ensure that all essential services were in place before any construction begins.
“During this inspection, we are witnessing the global standards mandated by the Government, aiming for Zimbabwe to develop matching international standards, including the creation of smart cities with gated communities that feature schools, hospitals, and stadiums “he added.
He urged residents to consider the Nyore Nyore housing initiative, as it adheres to human development policies that dictate planning and establishment before construction.
At the same event, Nyore Nyore Housing chairman Mr Chiyangwa expressed optimism about accelerating the initiative.
“We are working tirelessly to complete this project and establish roads within three months. We invited the minister to see our progress as we begin.
“We aim to develop modern malls; this area should be attractive, offering everything found in the Central Business District. We are also looking forward to launching another project in Chinhoyi,” he added.
