JUST how good is Tawanda Mawanhise?
If you ask the Warriors fans, the answer will probably be that he is a real gem in the making.
If you ask the residents of Motherwell, a city just 12 miles to the east of Glasgow, they will tell you that he is probably the finest young forward in Scottish football.
The speedy forward, who turned 22 last month, has exploded in his first four months in the Scottish Premiership, where he has turned himself into one of the stars, if not the star, at Motherwell.
After winning his team’s November Player of the Month award last week, which is voted for by the fans, Maswanhise played a big role as he helped Motherwell edge Dundee United 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller on Saturday.
That was the perfect way to celebrate his Player of the Month award.
He provided the early warning for Dundee United with his daisy-cutter going just wide of the post.
That alarm clock wasn’t enough to roll them from their slumber and Motherwell were all too happy to strike again.
This time Maswanhise was the provider, floating in a brilliant ball for Apostolos Stamatelopoulos to find a brace.
The home side closed the first half 3-1 up and few would argue that lead wasn’t justified in an eye-catching first 45 minutes.
Motherwell assistant boss Stevie Frail hailed the character of his side’s players after they jumped to fourth in the Premiership with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Dundee United.
Maswanhise is feeling the love at Motherwell.
“It’s nice knowing the fans voted for me,” he said.
“I have just tried to do my thing. I want December to be successful for the team and the fans.
“We will give everything, thanks for the support.”
He has played 12 matches in the Scottish Premiership and scored three goals in the 632 minutes he has been in action.
He has also played three matches in the Scottish Cup and scored one goal.
These are not bad statistics for a man trying to settle in a new league and new country.
