HOW Mine FC are basking in glory after posting their first back-to-back wins, thumping debutants Chiredzi FC 2-1 on Wednesday. The Metallon Gold-sponsored outfit had a disappointing start losing to Dynamos, Bantu Rovers and drawing against Chapungu but beat Shabanie at home last Friday.
However, for those who believe in myths, the odds are against the gold miners as any team that plays against Dynamos in week one in the last three years has been relegated. How Mine assistant coach Simba Rusike said they have crossed the bridge.
“I told you before, that it was just a setback and that we want to disprove those statistics that any team which plays against Dynamos in first week gets relegated. We have bounced back,” said Rusike.
He added that they have found perfect combinations now after failing to win their opening three games which had the club’s followers start asking questions considering the fact that the gold miners assembled one of the strongest outfits in the Premiership.
They have Kudakwashe Musharu, Bernard Donavan, Morris Kadzola, Emmanuel Matiranga, James Chitereki, Mernard Mupera and Gilbert Banda in their ranks.
“I am happy. The team’s form would have not come at the perfect time than this. Everyone is working hard and we are proud that the dry spell is over. We are just in high spirits,” said Rusike.
He said the fine form of their lethal striker Musharu had played an important part in getting the team back on track.
Musharu scored a brace against Chiredzi and one against Chapungu. “Masharu has played a big part since coming back from trials, but the first games were just not ours to win. We just want to keep the momentum going forward,” added Rusike.
Musharu is poised to join Amazulu in South Africa in June after attending trials there last month.
“Musharu might leave which will be a blow to us, but for now we are still waiting for Amazulu feedback. We believe that won’t be a big factor as we have a big squad which can do the job,” said Rusike.
Rusike rubbished the reports that there is bad blood between coach Ncube and captain Banda who went AWOL after the Chapungu game.
“He played and he was in the team against Chiredzi. There is no issue of him not playing for the team any more and that there is bad blood between him and the coach,” he said.
