How Mine . . . . . . . . . . . (1) 2 BENJAMIN Marere came off the bench to power visiting How Mine to victory against Premiership debutantes Dongo Sawmills at Vengere yesterday.

Barely five minutes after coming on for Heritein Masuku, the striker rose high and unmarked to nod the winner in the 86th minute, beating a ball-watching Dongo Sawmill defence in their crowded box.

The goal came against the run of play.

Kelvin Katandika had pulled Dongo Sawmill back on level terms after 76 minutes, having fallen behind to a first half strike by Wonder Sithole, who riffled home the opener in the 5th minute following a goalmouth melee.

Led by captain Evans “Morocco” Chikwaikwai, who led from the front, Dongo Sawmill took the game to the visitors, with substitutes Silas Chihota, Lawrence Masibera and Jese Last livening up the game.

Dongo Sawmill coach Shadreck Mugurasave rued his charges’ missed chances.

“We created chances, but failed to bury them and that cost us the game in the end. I am happy with the way the boys played and we are looking forward to coming right in our next match away to Dynamos,” Mugurasave said.

His counterpart Luke Masomere was happy with collecting his first set of full points, although he conceded it was a tight contest.

“Dongo are a good and organised side and we came here expecting a tough encounter after watching them play against FC Platinum last weekend.

“We are happy to have got a good result against them in their backyard,” said Masomere.
