Anne Ruthenburg Fashion and Beauty
Hello there folks, Happy New Year! I am glad we made it into the New Year. Let us make sure we make each day count people. Live life to the fullest and be good to each other.
I am starting the year talking about something that I am sure is plaguing many ladies in our city who wear hair extensions and wigs — loss of hairline. So the question many women and men who have hairlineless ask me is . . .
Can we grow our hairline back?
Yes! But it will not grow back as long or as thick as the rest of the other hair on your head. Many damaged and weakened hairlines can partially regrow if you start treating your scalp and hair better. You will have to be serious about these three things;
Reverse the damage already done by nourishing your hairline from the outside, and prevent further damage from occurring by avoiding behaviours that lead to hair loss. Bring it all together by nourishing your hair internally with the right diet. So honestly if you really want your hairline to grow back, the first thing you need to know is that you have to start exposing it to air and to the sun — Vitamin D. There is no suitable replacement externally for the sun. Even if you let it show when you are at home for even an hour, that’s good. But constantly covering up the patches is like covering up a wound — it will not heal properly. Trust me, one side of my hairline has stitches from a head injury, and I was told that there is no way the hair will grow back. Half my head was shaved and I had to wear wigs for months. But six years later, I have hair there, it is thin, very thin, but it is there and still growing. So the advice most hairdressers give their clients of leaving your hair without weaves or wigs or braids for at least two weeks, is very good advice, and if you are serious about your hair health and growth, you will follow this advice.
Reverse the damage
Use the right shampoo. There are plenty of shampoos that claim to regrow hair, but some work better than others. Know what to look for before you invest any money in this type of specialty hair product.
Look for a gentle shampoo that clears your pores without the use of harsh chemicals. Herbal shampoos can be beneficial. Look for ones containing chamomile, aloe vera, ginseng, horsetail, rosemary, biotin, cysteine, proteins, silica, and/or vitamin E.
Check the ingredients and make sure that your shampoo does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate. This is a fairly common ingredient in many commercially produced shampoos, but it can cause already weakened hair to further shrink and break
Please people remember that ingredients are so important, whatever you put into your body from outside or inside is so important, you have no idea. The sad thing is if you abuse yourself, the damage will only show years later when you are older, and it is too late to fix. Condition your hair. Hair that remains properly moisturised will be stronger, thicker, and less likely to break. My hairline stays wet as much as possible, its weird but it works.
A good conditioner is a crucial component in keeping your hair moisturised. Herbal conditioners can be a great choice because they are less likely to contain potentially hazardous chemicals. In particular, look for conditioners that contain amino acids, biotin, aloe vera, ginseng, and/or green tea. Apply the conditioner and leave it in for 15 to 30 minutes before rinsing it with lukewarm water.
After conditioning your hair, use a steam treatment to open the cuticle and liquefy the conditioner so that it penetrates each strand of hair deeper.
Wrap your hair in a washcloth dampened with hot water, then cover both your hair and the cloth with a plastic shower cap.
Lay a second warm washcloth over the cap, then cover the entire thing with a second shower cap.
Sit for at least one hour to allow adequate steam to form. If possible, spend part or all of this time underneath a hooded dryer.
Moisturise your hair
Good hair regrowth balms, masks, and serums can help thicken and protect the hair around your forehead, temples, and nape. Massage your chosen product directly into the damaged hairline. Currently I use T444 Hair balm/serum. Yes it is very expensive but worth it.
Look for a product that mixes a light protein treatment with a gentle moisturiser. Products that contain Vitamin E are also good since this nutrient can replenish any damaged skin on your scalp. I used Vitamin E on my skin for months on my accident scars, and now you can hardly see a scratch.
Giving your scalp a light massage as you apply these products can help, too. Massaging the skin will stimulate blood flow to your scalp. Increased blood flow to any area of the body increases that area’s ability to function, so increasing blood flow to your scalp can increase your scalp’s ability to regrow hair.
Make a homemade hairline oil
If you know me well, you will know this is my preferred treatment for anything and everything — homemade treatments. Natural oils moisturise and thicken your hair, and since you’ll be blending them together yourself, you’ll know that there are no hidden chemicals to worry about.
This is my favourite one, one formula consists of one part organic castor oil, three parts extra virgin olive oil, and five drops of organic tea tree oil.
The olive oil acts as a carrier oil, making it easier to apply the product evenly over your scalp, and it also contains beneficial antioxidants and vitamin E. Castor oil stimulates dormant hair follicles, and tea tree oil can unclog hair follicles that are too blocked to grow effectively.
Another good option is a mixture of 2 oz (60 ml) coconut oil, 10 drops of rosemary oil, and 10 drops of lavender oil.
The coconut oil provides intense moisture. Lavender oil can cleanse and relax a stressed scalp, while rosemary oil stimulates blood flow and awakens dormant hair follicles
Next week we will deal with the second part of trying to re-grow your hairline or any part of your head that has hair loss.
