‘Local business people should build synergies’

Business Correspondents
BUSINESS players have been urged to engage themselves and build synergies in order to share experiences and come up with sustainable business solutions in the face of economic challenges currently bedevilling the country.

This was said by founder and business development manager of Genesis Events, Ropafadzo Dunirai, at the launch of her events management firm.

The banquet attracted scores of business players from various sectors.

She said the firm’s thrust was the first of its kind in Mutare after having realised a void in communication and interaction among the business community in the city which was contributing to weak business systems as knowledge transfer was not circulating among economic players.

“Our vision is to create business events like exhibitions, seminars, workshops and product launch parties for networking purposes as we want to create and promote synergies within all sectors of the economy for growth of local business.

“We also want to bring programmes like team building for people in different corporates and organisations,” she said.

She said Mutare was lagging behind in this area as the city only had one main business event throughout the course of the year, the Manicaland Agricultural Show, which had a bias towards the agriculture sector, leaving other sectors starved of marketing events.

“We have one main event, which is Manicaland Agricultural Show, but it is not targeting businesspeople. It is not really motivating or inspiring people to participate there. I have checked their participation level and realised that sometimes people don’t go there because it is mainly agricultural. What we want is something like those business events we find happening in other cities like Harare so that people get there and network.

“We want to compliment the efforts of other corporates and Manicaland Agricultural Show Society in promoting growth of business in the City of Mutare. In these workshops or business gatherings, we always bring on board a motivational speaker and we also give companies participating an opportunity to promote their products and services,” she added.

With the country’s economy having shifted from being formal to highly informal, most small to medium business enterprises have found it difficult to establish firms due to an uneven economic ground.

The company will host its first mini exhibition for local companies to interact and showcase their products and services on the first week of March next year in Mutare.
