HUAWEI launches world’s first tri-folding phone

The iPhone 16’s time under the spotlight is about to come to an end. After teasing the world’s first tri-folding smartphone, HUAWEI has finally unveiled the Mate XT at an event in China.

As confirmed by the company previously, the HUAWEI Mate XT is finally here. The smartphone will come with two hinges, folding the smartphone into a triple-screen foldable.

It’s not a clamshell foldable, though. It folds like a book, much like the Galaxy Z Fold. (Although, it definitely looks more like a Z than the Galaxy Z series.)

When folded, the phone is 12.8mm thick. Though it has three screens, the size isn’t that much different from modern two-screen foldables today.

Now, when unfolded, the Mate XT turns into a huge 10.2-inch OLED screen — with a resolution of 2232 x 3184, 16:11 aspect ratio, and LTPO features. Since it has two hinges, users can also reduce this sizable behemoth to a 7.9-inch mode.

Under the hood, HUAWEI has not revealed what processor is powering everything. At the very least, we can confirm a Kirin 9010 5G chip or above because of satellite connectivity. It will also have a 50-megapixel camera, paired with a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 12-megapixel periscope zoom lens.

Despite how thin it is, users will still enjoy a sizable 5600mAh battery, compatible with 66W fast charging.

Right now, the Mate XT is exclusive to Chinese markets. The phone will start at CNY 19,999 (or around US$ 2,809) for a 16GB/256GB variant and goes up to CNY 23,999 (or around US$ 3,370) for a 16GB/1TB model – gadgetmatch.
