A Harare woman yesterday set her husband ablaze before committing suicide following a domestic dispute. Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident. He said investigations were in progress to establish what really transpired.
“We received a report of Nancy Dzorai of number 18 Whitehall Road, St Andrews Park in Mabelreign who was found dead at their gate together with her husband only identified as Machimbirike.
It is alleged that at around 2am neighbours saw a fire coming from Machimbirike’s house accompanied by a loud cry for help which prompted them to rush to the scene to investigate. Upon arrival at the gate they found Machimbirike and Dzorai lying at the gate holding each other but Dzorai was already dead while Machimbirike was still crying for help.
Neighbours called the Fire Brigade and an ambulance which then took Machimbirike who was bleeding profusely to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
A close neighbour who identified herself as Ms Kamuti said that Dzorai set Machimbirike ablaze following an unknown dispute and took an unknown poisonous substance after assuming that Machimbirike had died.
