Hubby wins protection order against abusive wife

A MAN from Chief Marange dragged his wife to court seeking a protection
order after accusing her of being physically and verbally abusive.

Walter Gutukunhuwa from chief Marange told Mutare magistrate Mrs Yeukai Chigodora that his wife of four years, Mildred Chikara, had chased him from his homestead and he now stays at his plot in Odzi.

“This woman assaults me every-time when I am home. She used to assault me with stones and I would run away but now one of the stones broke my ribs and I cannot run anymore so I just endure the beatings.

“She also insults me by calling me a useless old man and she uses vulgar words referring to my mother’s private parts. I am now the third husband whom she has stayed with and she has displayed similar behavior in her previous marriages.

“I have run away from my own home and I now stay at the plot. I was asking if the court could grant the protection order I have requested,” said Gutukunhuwa.

In her defence, Chikara said Gutukunhuwa was lying because he left his home to stay with another woman.

“I was actually surprised when I was arrested because of domestic violence. This man ran away from home so that he could marry another woman.

“Maybe the reason why he is seeking this protection order is because I claimed maintenance from him,” said Chikara.

Mrs Chigodora granted the protection order and warned Chikara that she should desist from that behaviour or she would go to jail if she took the court’s order for granted.

“You have to behave like an African woman who is not violent and respect your husband. Stop calling him old because you were not blind when you married him,” said Mrs Chigodora.
