Muyengwa Chikumene, the coordinator of the Zimbabwe People’s Power Movement, a prominent human rights advocacy group, was brutally attacked and left for dead by unknown assailants while coming from a late night church meeting.
According to a relative, who wished to remain anonymous, Chikumene was ambushed outside his home in Harare.

“He was beaten mercilessly and left lying in a pool of blood,” the relative said. “We suspect this attack is linked to his human rights work, as he has had numerous run-ins with authorities in the past.”
Chikumene has been a vocal critic of human rights abuses in Zimbabwe and has led several campaigns against police brutality and government corruption. His relative revealed that he has received several threatening messages and warnings from unknown individuals, but he never backed down.
“We are deeply concerned about his safety and the safety of other human rights defenders in the country,” said a colleague of Chikumene. “The government must take immediate action to protect these brave individuals who are fighting for justice and freedom.”
he police, according to the relative, declined to investigate the matter revealing the case had no evidence.
The people who attacked him initially demanded his Zanu-PF membership card, when he revealed that he did not have it they started to beat him accusing him of being a sellout, now the police also say they do not want to investigate the matter, clearly something is amiss,” said the relative.
