TWO Harare men and a Chinese national, who are facing human trafficking charges, were yesterday granted US$100 bail each.

Joseph Rabson, Shame Mafido and Chen Dehu appeared before regional magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, who granted them bail after spending the weekend in remand prison.

Magistrate Gofa ruled that the State didn’t have any compelling reasons warranting their pre-trial incarceration.

The court heard that Dehu came to Zimbabwe with the sole purpose of kidnapping minor girls for child marriages in China.

Dehu connived with Rabson and Mafido, who recruited three victims after deceiving them that they were going to China on educational sponsorships, when the aim was to marry them off.

One of the intended victims is Rabson’s daughter.

On October 18, they transported the girls from Karoi to Harare and booked them in a Belvedere lodge.

They were there for four days awaiting travelling documents.

The trio fraudulently acquired new birth certificates and national identity documents.

They were, however, arrested at the lodge after a tip-off.
