UNHERALDED Mutare bodybuilder Blessing ‘Hunky B’ Saunyama believes he has what it takes to make a lasting impression when he struts and flexes his muscles alongside competitors in the Marondera Classics and Mr Manicaland contests.
The Marondera Classics is set for tomorrow (Saturday) in Marondera while the Mr and Ms Manicaland competition has been scheduled for October 4.
Initially, the Mr and Ms Manicaland had been scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday), but the event was postponed to allow Mutare bodybuilders to take part in the Marondera contest and also give the Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness Association officials a chance to witness both events.
In an interview, Saunyama told this newspaper that he has high hopes of leaving a lasting impression in both competitions although he felt the Marondera Classics will be tougher than the Mr and Ms Manicaland competition. “I think I will be able to make my presence felt in both competitions, but the Marondera Classics will be tougher than the Mr and Ms Manicaland competition.
“For the Marondera Classics I am just going there for the love of the sport and of course, I might be lucky to leave a lasting impression. However, I think I will do quite well in the Mr and Ms Manicaland contest. All along I have been taking part in the junior’s category but now I want to take my chances in the seniors’ category,” he said.
Saunyama, who turns 26 on October 8, settled for fourth position in last year’s Mr Jade competition held in Mutare.
The event was his first to compete in the senior’s category.
Nonetheless, Saunyama will have to make do with tight competition from a number of local bodybuilders such as Brighton Mazikana, Aaron Chinyamunzore and Shepherd “Beast” Kuwana, among others.
In a separate interview, Manicaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association chairman Farai “Talawa” Kasecha said preparations for the Mr and Ms Manicaland were at an advanced stage.
“We are going ahead with our preparations and we are happy that we have covered much ground. Most of the things we need are now in place and we are only left with the task of raising prize money for the winners. We are confident that we will be able to meet our deadline,” said Kasecha.
