IT surely never rains but pours for the Hartzell High School headmaster, Shorwi Kawadza (55), whose house at the Old Mutare Mission School recently went up in smoke, and is now facing culpable homicide charges after a white Nissan hardbody truck he was driving ran over and killed a minor in Chikanga high-density suburb in Mutare recently.
Police in Manicaland confirmed the death of five-year-old Anotidaishe Mashoko, after the minor was run over by a white Nissan hardbody truck (Reg. No. AAJ2307) which was being driven by Kawadza.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the fatal accident which happened at corner World Bank and Bonda roads in Chikanga.
“At around 1.45pm on September 14, Shorwi Kawadza of Old Mutare Mission, who is employed as a headmaster at Hartzell High School, was driving along Bonda Road with one passenger on board. The truck is owned by Hartzell High. On approaching World Bank Road he hit Anotidaishe Mashoko, of Chikanga Phase One.
“The young child was crossing the road in the company of his grandmother (65). Anotidaishe sustained head injuries and was taken to Mutare Provincial Hospital where he died upon admission.
“Police are still investigating the case to establish whether there could have been inattention or misjudgment,” he said.
Insp Chishiri urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving along roads in high-density suburbs.
“It is also imperative to remind motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving along roads in high-density suburbs. We encourage motorists to be on the lookout for children and avoid speeding while driving on high-density suburb roads,” he added.
Tears have barely dried upon the cheeks of Kawadza family members following the tragic incident in which a mysterious fire gutted their house destroying property worth over $60 000.
Back then in June when this publication covered the fire incident at Hartzell, station chairman Rev Doctor Nyasha Chimbunde said they had forked out $1 000 towards buying new clothes and other basic necessities for the school head and his family.
