BIDVEST Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes Zimbabwean players who play for his team in the South African Absa Premier Soccer League did well in the just ended season.Despite the limited game time, Hunt still believes they gave a good account of themselves.
The three-time PSL winning coach said he was delighted with their input.
Hunt told Chronicle Sport: “It is always great to work with Benjani Mwaruwari who played in one of the biggest leagues in the world for Manchester City. His presence and influence made a difference to the team, the other is Onismor Bhasera who also played in England for a lower division side Plymouth Argyle.
“I would love to continue working with them but at the moment we are negotiating their future with the team, hopefully I believe we will reach an agreement.”
Hunt added that the likes of Tinashe Nengomasha, Denver Mukamba and Thomas Sweswe are also experienced players who have been in the PSL for a long time and added value to the Clever Boys.
Wits finished third in the Premiership race and were runners up in the Nedbank Cup.
Sibusiso Vilakazi of Wits was voted the Nedbank Cup player of the tournament.
The PSL ended in style with Mamelodi Sundowns winning the league title. They are home to former AmaZulu midfielder Esrom Nyandoro, former Coventry City striker Peter Ndlovu, the Warriors duo of Khama Billiat and Cuthbert Malajila.
The Absa PSL coach of the season is Pitso Mosimane of Sundowns.
Bernard Parker won the top goal scorer’s award.
The Absa goal of the season was scored by Hlompho Kekana of Sundowns with Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs winning the goalminder’s top award.
Vilakazi also scooped the Absa Players’ Player of the Season and the league’s top individual award.
