Hurungwe Rural District Council recently handed over five clinics to the Ministry of Health and Child Care as part of its contribution towards the fight against Covid-19.
Handing over one of the clinics in Hurungwe West constituency, the council’s chief executive officer, Mr Luke Kalavina said the local authority was motivated by the need to ensure that the district was protected from the pandemic.
He said the handover of the clinics would ensure that all the five constituencies in the district have isolation centres.
The other constituencies are Hurungwe East, North, Central and Magunje constituencies.
Accepting Chiroti Clinic on behalf of the ministry, district medical officer, Dr Frankson Masiye applauded the council for complementing the fight against COVID-19 by capacitating the Government.
He said although the clinic, which has four beds had been designated as an isolation centre, it was going to continue providing general care to the people to avoid inter ward and area movements.
Officiating at the handover, Hurungwe West legislator and Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka thanked the council for taking the initiative.
“This is a shot in the arm for the ministry and Government as we intensify the fight against COVID-19,” she said.
Minister Mliswa-Chikoka, who also chairs Provincial Task Force Team on COVID-19, outlined the need for rural community to adhere to the lockdown regulations.
