A TRUCK driver is being accused of neglecting his pregnant wife, who was paralysed in an accident when she was on her way to see him, and is now even accusing her of infidelity.
Brighton Cheza, 34, forced his wife, Elina Chimbiro, 30, to pack her belongings from their home in Stoneridge and sent her back to Mhondoro.
He was accusing her of infidelity.
Her parents declined to accept Brighton’s accusations and, instead, demanded he pays the lobola he hasn’t paid in the ten years of their marriage. Elina returned home to Stoneridge with her belongings after the decision by her parents not to welcome her back into their rural home.
Brighton then decided to abandon her. Instead, he employed a house maid, identified only as Molly, to look after his two children. The maid is the one now receiving money from Brighton to take care of the children while Elina can only watch from a distance.
Brighton is accusing his friend, Michael Chitsungo, of being the one who is responsible for Elina’s pregnancy which is now in its eighth month. Elina told H-Metro that Brighton has been coming up with a cocktail of allegations against her so as to try and find ways of pushing her out of the marriage so that he can marry another wife. She denied bedding Michael.
“My husband is accusing me of bedding another man so as to ditch me,” said Elina.
“I never dated Michael as alleged, these are issues he is raising so as to find ways of ditching me because I am now paralysed. I was involved in a road traffic accident while travelling to meet him since he was enroute to another country as he is an international truck driver.
“Ndakatyoka gumbo saka rakaiswa simbi handichagona kana kufamba. I have messages between me and him questioning why he was telling his relatives that he is not responsible for the pregnancy. I used to stay with his sister and mother but he ordered them to leave after spreading falsehoods about me. Akanyatsondiudza kuti iwe hauchisiri type yangu saka zvekuti nhumbu haisi yake inzira yekundisiya nayo,” she said.
Elina told H-Metro she was prepared to go for DNA tests to establish that Brighton was the father of the child she was carrying.
“I am aware that Brighton has lost affection for me and I am asking him to only give me money for maternity because anytime I can expect a baby. Does he want me to die? Ndakamutadzirei, inga ndakaita tsawona ndichienda kunomuwonawo wani, ndine vana naye wani. Ngaandipewo mari yekunonyoresa nekuti chiremba anofanira kundiwona sezvo ndakakuvara.”
Elina was in tears during parts of the interview. Brighton refused to entertain H-Metro, demanding to know who had brought the story to media.
“Go and find another story not this. Mashaya zvimwe zvekuita here? Iye akupa nhamba dzangu ndiyani?”
Michael denied impregnating Elina saying he was prepared to go for DNA tests.
“I have been friend of Brighton for a long time,” said Michael.
“I never bedded or made any sexual advances towards his wife. Neighbours are circulating false information that I impregnated Brighton’s wife. I was visiting his wife when she was involved in an accident. I would assist and nurse her since Brighton was away on duty and residents suspected that I was bedding her. She was writhing in pain zvekuti kana bonde racho aizoriitasei, ngavasadaro. Brighton never accused me but neighbours are the ones spreading wrong information,” said Michael.
