GLOBALISATION has separated thousands of families, friends, colleagues and lovers as it has blemished country boundaries, and facilitated the movement of people which has made it difficult for childhood sweethearts to keep their love affairs until the marriage stage.
However, Japhet Mlauzi a.k.a Hwabaraty has made his dream of marrying his childhood girlfriend, Precious Phiri come true when he romantically proposed to her in the middle of an unforgettable night for the two lovebirds.
Hwabaraty shared with Sunday Life his love journey with the beautiful Phiri. He said the couple met while they were teenagers and became friends.
The platonic relationship turned into a romantic one even though along the way they faced challenges which helped fuel their relationship to be stronger.
“Our love has not been an easy going relationship. I can best describe it as a Romeo and Juliet kind of love but ours has a happy ending. We started dating while we were kids but that time we were not ready for commitment as we were still young, we separated for a while and met again and that’s when we decided to take our relationship seriously as we had a common goal,” Hwabaraty said.
“We have faced so many challenges, people wanting to separate us but today I live to tell a different story because I did not listen to people’s mayhems but instead I followed my heart. This is one of the people who have contributed to my successful journey in the music industry and that’s one of the reasons why I love her this much,” he said.
Asked why he took so long to propose given the timeline they have been together, Hwabaraty said he wanted to wait for the right time.
“I took time to propose as I wanted to make sure that I was doing the right thing. I didn’t want to propose or rush into marriage and at the end of the day get divorced. I believe as a public figure people look up to me and I wouldn’t want to give people a false alarm but I’m happy now that I have followed my heart and I’m following in the footsteps of my mentor Jeys Marabini,” he said.
Hwabaraty recently launched his successful live DVD recording album in Bulawayo Theatre and he said he had planned to propose to her beautiful queen on stage but that didn’t work out.
“I initially wanted to surprise my fiancé by proposing during my live recording concert but Precious was in a rush to go to work and given the short space of time I couldn’t do it. But it was my greatest wish to propose to her live on stage with the world seeing the love I have for her,” he said.
“I then surprised her in the middle of a Sunday night when she woke up and realised I was holding a ring ready to propose to her. I thought there could not be any better time than surprising her during the night. She was happy and excited, and my Sundays shall never be the same again,” he said.
Having been in the arts for years, Hwabaraty has proven to be the best in what he does; his latest Isilwane album traces his roots and future in the music industry. Hwabaraty dedicated two songs to his fiancé.
“The two songs in the album,Ngikhulekela mina nawe and Isitimela Sothando are two love songs I would like to dedicate them to my lovely sweetheart.
The songs will always remind us of our incredible love journey for instance Isitimela Sothando mainly narrates the first time I met Precious and encourages us to stand side by side,” he said.
Hwabaraty urged fans to look forward to their wedding as plans are on the pipeline. -@kayskudzai
