ALTERNATIVE musician Hwabaraty, fresh from a performance at the Isintu Festival in the United Kingdom, is set to return to his roots in Njube suburb, Bulawayo, to honour the community that shaped him. He will launch his latest album next month in a gesture of gratitude and celebration.
The 10-track album, titled Amandla, will be unveiled at Sidudla Beer Garden on September 21. It features a rich blend of collaborations, with tracks including Kabakhulume, Juba, Amandla (featuring Mnqobi Yazo), Ndodana (featuring Udonsi Lwabapostoli), Umfula (featuring Sisa), Intabezikude (featuring Rosalie), Kanye Kanye, Madonna (featuring Fish F Ndaramu), Njalo and Thina Siyakhala.
Produced through cross-border collaborations, Amandla brings together the talents of studios such as Mabala Noise (South Africa), Rockup Studios (Zimbabwe) and Niso Productions (Zimbabwe/Canada), with contributions from international session musicians. The album is being mastered by acclaimed producer Thembani “Zozo” Phakathi, promising a polished, world-class finish.

Speaking in an interview, Hwabaraty said choosing Njube as the launch venue is his way of giving back to the community that supported him from the very beginning. It also marks a celebration of his journey, following a landmark year in which he toured Canada and the UK for the first time.
“Njube is my home and foundation. Launching here is a way of giving back to the community that raised me, celebrating my roots and inspiring young people that greatness can be born from the township and reach the world stage,” said Hwabaraty.
He explained that the album is inspired by his journey from Njube to international stages, guided by ancestral wisdom and enriched by global collaborations. It blends traditional Southern African rhythms with modern sounds, symbolising both struggle and triumph, spirituality and celebration.
The album explores themes of resilience, cultural pride, love, unity and identity, encouraging listeners to remain grounded while navigating life’s challenges.
“Amandla delivers a message of power and pride. It uplifts communities and connects people across borders,” Hwabaraty said.
This marks the sixth album in Hwabaraty’s discography, following Ekas’Lam, Woza Nhlanhla, Isilwane, Umqakezeleni and Jelimana. Each project has explored different aspects of his artistry — from township storytelling in Ekas’Lam and cultural pride in Umqakezeleni to spiritual awakening in Jelimana. With Amandla, Hwabaraty turns his focus to empowerment and resilience. — @mthabisi_mthire
