AFTER vastly touring under Amawumbo Dance Company, contemporary musician, Hwabaraty (born Japhet Mlauzi) has become his own man, with his first port of call being the, “I am Jelimana” tour in Canada.
The Makhwelintaba singer who travelled to Ontario, Canada, last week expressed his readiness to showcase his talent to an international audience.
“This is my first international tour as Hwabaraty. I’m really excited to tell my story to the world. I feel I was ready for this a while ago. All these years, I’ve been brewing my craft for this market.
“So far, I’ve performed at the Sun Fest and I’m looking forward to participating in the Fringe in a few days. In between, I have workshops lined up in different provinces across Canada. Dates keep adding up since I got here. Thanks to the Niso team for setting up a successful tour here in Canada,” he said.
Among the festivities, Hwabaraty said he has been enjoying meeting artistes from different countries and networking with them, with an eye toward future collaborations.
His tour in Canada will continue through August. Having travelled to France, Spain, Belgium and other European countries, Hwabaraty has served as a cultural ambassador.
His evolution from a kwaito artiste to his current status speaks to his resilience and eagerness to continue improving. He has been through it all, and this tour is the pinnacle of what he has been working towards since his introduction to the music scene in the early 2000s.
To continue his legacy, he has also brought in his daughter Spoonky and the pair released an Amapiano single, Bazwile earlier this year.
