HWANGE and Bulawayo City kept their title dreams alive in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League with hard fought victories at the weekend, while Bulawayo Chiefs dropped points in a frustrating goalless draw.
Chipangano edged army side Imbizo 1-0 to move within touching distance of the summit, taking their tally to 38 points. Bulawayo City were ruthless on the road, brushing aside Ajax Hotspurs Movers 3-0 to stay in the hunt with 41 points. That leaves them three ahead of Hwange as the season enters its decisive phase.
Bulawayo Chiefs, who were expected to keep pace with the top two, failed to find a breakthrough against Blackrock in the coal mining town, a result that dented their momentum.
Talen Vision slipped further off the pace after a 1-0 defeat to Megawatt, leaving them stuck on 29 points in ninth place. Coach Kudzayi Mhandire admitted his side is under pressure.
“It’s unfortunate that we lost that away fixture. We will keep on working hard and I believe we will get it right,” he said.
Elsewhere, Jordan Sinnot cruised past Bulawayo Warriors 2-0, while Victoria Falls City and new boys Eagle Life shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Casymn and Nust played out a stalemate, and Mkhokheli Dube’s Zebra Revolution suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bosso 90.
Zebra Revolution remain in danger, sitting 15th on the log with 19 points, 11 clear of bottom placed Ajax Hotspurs Movers, whose survival hopes are fading fast.
