Hwange Colliery swindled of US$51k

before Harare magistrate Mr Don Ndirowei who remanded the quartet to July 22 on US$100 bail each.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira said the complainant was Hwange Colliery Company represented by the security and loss control manager Mr Tafirenyika Dzimbanhete.

It is alleged that Badza was employed as a sales clerk at the Coal House in Harare and was responsible for the acquisition of Comesa/SADC certificates for the company’s exporter selling products.

Kausiyo was employed at Hwange Colliery as an accounts assistant who was responsible for managing payments of transactions at the head office in Hwange.
Bosha was employed by ZimTrade as a bookkeeper, while Simende is husband to Kausiyo and were co-directors of Eighth Edition Company (Pvt) Ltd which was into commodity broking.

Kausiyo and Simende were both signatories to Eighth Edition’s NMB Bank account, it is alleged.
Between June 9, 2011 and January 14 this year, intending to defraud the mining company, they prepared out of pocket allowances documents in which Badza made payment requests for Comesa/SADC certificates ranging between US$2 000 and US$6 000, the court heard.

Mr Chakurira said in connivance with Kausiyo, the court heard that they made requisitions to be authorised by the finance section causing purchases from Bosha who issued fictitious ZimTrade Comesa/SADC certificates with no records or information at ZimTrade.

Kausiyo and Badza facilitated bank money transfers from Hwange Colliery Standard Chartered Bank Account of the money to ZimTrade when the money was transferred to Eighth Edition (Pvt) Ltd, it is alleged.

Upon transfers, Bosha and Simende withdrew various amounts of money which they gave to Badza who knew the share ratio, the court was told.
In February this year, it is alleged, it was discovered that the finance section was authorising money transfers to a company different from the authorised distributors.
As a result of the misrepresentation, the company suffered a prejudice of US$51 000 and nothing was recovered.
