Newcomers in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League, Blackrock stood toe to toe with their more illustrious opponents at Sinderella Ground on Wednesday to force a goalless draw against Chipangano in the Hwange derby.
The match played before a capacity crowd at Sinderella, was a humdinger and lived up to expectations as it was played in typical derby atmosphere, a very competitive match.
There was lots of midfield action and goalmouth activity but either could breach the last line of defence and perhaps a share of the spoils was the best thing.
Hwange supporters chairman Lisutu Ndlovu was happy with the result and how the four officials tasked with handling the match, had delivered a top drawer performance.
“It was a tight match and the referees professionally handled the match. The whole of Hwange was at Sinderella,” said Ndlovu.
The result left Hwange on 28 points, six behind leaders Nkayi United who made a huge statement with an away victory at Victoria Falls Herentals.
United emerged 2-1 winners to move to 34 points to stay at the top for the third week running.
Bulawayo Chiefs stayed second after a 0-0 draw on a treacherous red soils pitch in Filabusi where they faced Jordan Sinott.
