Hwange duo set for Norway trials

Club secretary Burzil Dube, who will accompany the players on the trip, yesterday confirmed that they received invitations from Second Division side Kristiansund BK and they will spend three weeks at different clubs.

“This move was made possible by one of our committee members. The players will be going to Kristiansund first but there are also three other clubs that are interested in assessing them. So we will be there for almost a month,” said Dube.
Zvekumbawere, who nearly gave Hwange a late winner over Dynamos on Sunday before his effort was cleared from the line by David Kutyauripo, joined the coal-miners from Division Two side Black Leopards nearly two seasons ago.

He has been playing regularly in the first team while Lungu is coming from the Hwange Under-19 side that is currently in Division One.
Kristiansund is one of the teams where former Manchester United Ole Gunner Soljkaer launched his career before moving to Molde and then to England where he established his name.
Hwange coach Tennant Chilumba said he was excited by the development.

Chilumba, who has helped Hwange gatecrash into the top four following a slow start to the season, said he was confident of a either third or fourth place finish.
Hwange remained fourth on the log standings with 44 points, eight adrift of leaders FC Platinum and one behind third-placed Motor Action.
“A top four finish is possible at the moment but I don’t want to put so much pressure on the players.
“We just have to keep focused on our remaining games and try as much as possible to collect points,” said Chilumba.

The Zambian mentor also believes the race for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championship was still wide open after derailing Dynamos in a 0-0 draw at the Colliery on Sunday.
“The championship is still open because there are three games to play and leaders FC Platinum and Dynamos will meet in one of those games. I think that has to be the crucial game. We are happy for the point against Dynamos because we were playing a mature team.

“In fact we struggled in the last 10 minutes of the game but I give credit to the boys for playing with a great spirit.”
The battle for survival is getting hot at the bottom of the table where Kiglon, Zimbabwe Saints, Shooting Stars, Shabanie Mine and Masvingo sunk deeper after failing to win at the weekend. Kiglon slumped to a 1-0 defeat to fellow relegation fighters Monomotapa at Gwanzura and coach Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe hinted they may have thrown in the towel in their fight. Kiglon are second from the bottom with 24 points, one better than Zimbabwe Saints who collected a point in a 0-0 draw at Masvingo.
“We are as good as out. We tried our best but it’s unfortunate that we failed. We gave it our best shot,” said Jongwe.

The league’s draw specialists Monomotapa, who have shared the spoils in 14 of their 27 games this season, were happy after recording their sixth victory of the season.
