This was a sharp contrast to Motor Action’s exit from the Caf Cup after losing 0-2 at home to Black Leopards to fall 1-3 on aggregate.
The record by any local club was a negative six when Highlanders lost 1-7 to Tunisian giants Esperance in 2003 but the two teams from the recovering miners made it positive and it’s a pity records for all Caf club tournaments are not well kept.
Notably these margins could easily pass for continental records but this could not be confirmed by the Caf website.
However, these became records by Zimbabwe clubs and even further Hwange equalled Dynamos 4-1 home leg win over the Algerian opponents last season but FC Platinum bettered that with a 4-0 win.
Something vivid was the seemingly continued improvement by clubs based in the southern part of the country. Having dominated the Bob 88 Super Cup, Hwange and FC Platinum promised to continue with the fine run and if carried through to the Castle Premier Soccer League the region will just as well bank on the dominance.
With the numbers seemingly balancing with FC Platinum, Hwange, Highlanders, Chicken Inn, Quelaton, Shabanie Mine and either Hardbody or Tripple B, the region will have recovered from the 13 to three worst representation.
The balance will spread the national game and give equal opportunities to the once marginalised potential talent something that could in the long run benefit the national teams.
Interestingly, the two mining teams will now face Sudanese opponents in the first round of the Caf Champions League and Caf Cup and the big wins will all but instill self belief among some unheralded players in the two teams and ensure positive attitude to the game, something that could technically win matches.
