SHEASHAM chairman Reginald Chidawanyika says Bata Stadium is good enough to host the domestic Premiership matches.
There has been intense criticism of the stadium, which was given the greenlight to host PSL matches, last week.
Some Highlanders players, who spoke to H-Metro, slammed the “poor” quality of the pitch and said it was hard and uneven.
They believe players were at the risk of picking up serious injuries.
However, Chidawanyika rubbished all these allegations suggesting that their stadium meets the requirements to host PSL matches.
“I haven’t heard of any complaints about the pitch. It is the first time I am hearing it,” said Chidawanyika. “I am not technical about anything considering the pitch but I am sure there is nothing wrong about it as it was recently approved, which means we are doing the basics correctly.
“The only thing I am aware of is the picture that circulated on social media which has a section of fans who were sitting on gravel.”
He added:
“It is unfortunate, we didn’t expect that it was going to cause such a media scrum.
“We could have just left people to sit on the loan as at Baobab. “But, the gravel formation is a work in progress as we are set to put concrete on it.
“The process of putting concrete is already underway and won’t last a week.
“We have already submitted our scope of work to relevant authorities, the gravel formation was just preparation for work that is in progress.
“Other sections of the stadium are looking great and it’s just the touch-ups and perfections that we are working on.”
