Hwange keen on Mafu reunion

HWANGE FC are keen on a reunion with their former coach Bongani Mafu.

He was fired by Ngezi Platinum Stars, together with Benjani Mwaruwari, on Monday.

Mafu left Chipangano in March to take up the role of first assistant to Benjani at Ngezi.

Before quitting Hwange for the Mhondoro-based side, his team were leading the ZIFA Southern Region Division One league table and had completed the first lap of the season, without defeat.

“We have been monitoring his situation following what just happened at Ngezi.

“At the moment all we can say is that Mafu is our son, and it’s impossible to dismiss such reports.

“Our target is to win the championship, and we need to put our best foot forward to achieve what we want,” said the club official.

Mafu, who also had a brief stint as Highlanders’ coach, would not comment on talk linking him with a return to the Colliery.

Hwange top the Southern Region Division One league table by six points.

Edmore Sibanda and Obert Moyo, who were Mafu’s assistants, have been holding fort.

But, their capacity to consolidate top spot has been questioned following recent back-to-back losses.

Hwang travel to Bulawayo for a weekend clash with Highlanders’ development side Bosso 90.
