Hwange off to flying start in Pacific Breeze league opener

Bulawayo City 0-3 Hwange

HWANGE FC opened their Zifa Southern Region Division One League campaign in style with an impressive victory over Bulawayo City at White City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The match was played in a carnival atmosphere, marking not only the start of the new season but also a significant milestone for the league, which finally secured a sponsor after years of operating without one.

Adding to the festive mood, popular Zimdancehall artist Enzo Ishall thrilled fans with a lively halftime performance, keeping the crowd entertained and energised during the break.

Hwange’s goals came through Sean Chabika, Justin Kaunda and Quinton, sealing a convincing win to set the tone for their campaign.
Southern Region Division One chairman Chris Mtungwazi expressed optimism about the future following the newly secured sponsorship.

“We are hopeful this partnership will uplift our football and improve our performance as a region. The prospects are really bright,” said Mtungwazi.

“We came in just a few months ago and have already secured sponsorship, so I think Pacific Breeze are seeing something in us. This is supposed to be a win-win partnership, and we are confident we will deliver. The league has been named the Pacific Breeze Southern Region Division One, and we hope to grow with them.”

Kudakwashe Chiutsu highlighted the sponsor’s intentions, emphasizing both brand engagement and football development.

“We are entering into this partnership as part of our consumer engagement initiatives. The Bulawayo community has been very welcoming,” said Chiutsu.

“Most major sponsors focus on the Premier Soccer League, so we felt Division One also needs support. We are not just here to market our brand, but also to nurture upcoming talent from these leagues.”

The emphatic win gives Hwange early momentum, while the new sponsorship signals a promising new chapter for the league.
