HWANGE continued to set the pace in the Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League after Matchday 12, opening a three-point lead at the top of the table as the race for promotion gathers momentum.
The coalminers sit comfortably at the top with 27 points from 11 matches, boasting an impressive record of eight wins and three draws. Even more remarkable is their solid defence, having conceded just three goals while scoring 24, giving them the league’s best goal difference of +21.
However, the title race remains far from being settled.
Second-placed Talen Vision FC are keeping the pressure on the leaders with 24 points from 12 matches. The Trukumb sponsored side remains unbeaten this season, recording six wins and six draws, a testament to their consistency in a highly competitive campaign.
Bulawayo Warriors occupy third place with 23 points from 11 matches, while fellow promotion hopefuls Jordan FC are level on 23 points after 12 outings. Jordan’s recent exploits in the Zifa Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, where they have advanced to the latter stages after victories over Talen Vision and Nkayi United, have further highlighted their growing confidence.
The battle for a top-four finish is equally intense. Black Rock are fifth on 20 points, while Megawatt Victoria Falls Herentals and Nkayi United are locked together on 18 points, separated only by goal difference.
Zimbabwe Saints, one of the league’s giants, are ninth on 16 points and will be hoping to mount a stronger challenge in the second half of the season.
In the middle of the table, Casmyn, Bulawayo City and Zebra Revolution remain within touching distance of the leading pack, while Njube Spurs and Khami United face an uphill battle to climb the standings.
At the wrong end of the table, Mosi Rovers and Aqua Stars are level on nine points, while Bosso90 and Imbizo occupy the bottom two positions with seven points each. Imbizo have endured a particularly difficult campaign, managing just one victory in 11 matches and scoring only three goals.
With several clubs still harbouring realistic ambitions of challenging for promotion and others battling to avoid finishing in the relegation zone, the Southern Region Soccer League season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years.
While Hwange have established themselves as the team to beat, Talen Vision, Bulawayo Warriors and Jordan FC remain firmly in contention, ensuring that every point will be crucial as the campaign enters its decisive phase.
