WANGE district won the Matabeleland North National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) inter-district cricket tournament held at Nemane High School in Tsholotsho on Thursday and yesterday. The district, known for its coal mining status, was represented by Gebhuza and Mosi oa Tunya High Schools. Hosts district, represented by Nemane High who are coached by Xolani Mumba, came second while St James High School, representing Umguza district settled for the wooden spoon.
On day one Nemane High School beat St James by seven wickets having scored 150 runs in their innings while the later only managed 145 runs from 20 overs.
The hosts were on the receiving end against Hwange select managing 83 runs while Hwange scored 83 to win by 12 runs.
Hwange were again winners against St James, winning by 76 runs after posting 115 runs from 20 overs, compared to St James’ 42 runs.
Despite not coming tops, the host school had some very talented players especially Thembelihle Nkomo and Silenkosi Ncube who both exhibited excellent bating and bowling skills.
Nkomo was emphatic with her bating, managing two boundaries, a big six and a four.
Meanwhile, a provincial team was selected to represent Matabeleland North in the interprovincial finals set for Marondera early next month. Hosts Nemane High School provided five, Hwange seven and Umguza five.
