The Hwedza District Passport Office will begin processing passport applications on Tuesday December 23, 2025, the Civil Registry Department has advised the public.
“The Civil Registry Department wishes to advise its valued clients and stakeholders of the operationalisation of the Hwedza District Passport Office, with effect from Tuesday 23 December 2025.
“The District Registry Office will now be processing passport applications in addition to other civil registration services currently being offered,” the Department said in a public notice on Friday.
The introduction of passport services in Hwedza forms part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to decentralise public services and enhance accessibility for citizens.
“Members of the public are therefore encouraged to utilise the Office for passport applications and related services,” read the Department’s notice.
The Hwedza Passport Office will operate from 0745 hours to 1500 hours, Monday to Friday.
Among the notable examples of transformation under the Second Republic is the introduction and nationwide rollout of the electronic passport (e-passport), a milestone that has redefined access to identity, mobility and dignity in Zimbabwe.
The Hwedza District Passport Office is the latest under the initiative, following the establishment of bio-enrolment centres by the Civil Registry Department across the provinces, including in Lupane, Beitbridge, Hwange, Gweru, Chitungwiza, and Murehwa, among others.
For decades, identity documentation, the right to be recognised as a citizen, was often accompanied by long queues, frustrations, and administrative gridlock.
What was supposed to be a civic right had become an ordeal. The e-passport programme, launched in December 2021 and rapidly decentralised thereafter, has begun to restore efficiency, faith, and pride in public service.
Today, more than 20 e-passport centres operate nationwide, decongesting major cities and bringing services closer to the people.
Zimbabwe has also opened an e-passport centre in Johannesburg in South Africa and plans to extend the service to Botswana, Britian and the United States where its citizens are living.
