A GOKWE man died a painful death when marauding hyenas caught up with him as he was hunting.

They ravaged his private privates before eating off his head.

Nhamo Shumirai (47) met a herd of hyenas when he was with a neighbour Thulani Moyo (25) who managed to escape before the wild cats could spot him.

a?The hyenas caught up with him and ate his private parts and head,a? said Moyo the survivor.

When Chief Chireya got wind of the matter he ordered his police details to conduct an investigation and they found that indeed Shumirai was mauled to death by hyenas.

The Chief then summoned village head Enos Bangira to his traditional court for not reporting the matter. He was grilled on why he did not report the matter and fined.

a?We found the village head guilty of not reporting the matter and fined him $100,a?said Chief Chireya.

Most rural areas in Zimbabwe are located near sanctuaries and national parks, as such there is a high rate of human and wildlife conflict. Last year, the Zimbabwe National Parks authority and chiefs in Matabeleland North raised concern that conflict between humans and animals affected the countryas food security.
