a?I did not get a chance to prove myselfa

WHEN a chance comes oneas way, life experiences give you an instinct to grab it with both hands.

Thus when Ovidy Karuruas (ABOVE) up and down, see- saw career landed him at Kaizer Chiefs, he knew better than to let the chance slip.

He had played in France before, for Ligue 1asA US Boulogne in 2009 then he moved to OH Leuven in the Belgian Pro League. All along he had been with second tier and third tier outfits until South African side Kaizer Chiefs- one of the most celebrated in that country took him on board. For once, since leaving Zimbabwe, Karuru was to play top flight football.

He joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2014 on a three year deal that sadly the team would like to forget. They recently terminated his contract along with 20 other players. What makes it a bit harsh is that of the 20 players, some where sold others loaned out and he was part of those let go for free.

Now out in the cold, he told B Metro he was not given a chance to prove his true worth at Amakhosi as they are fondly called.

a?I didnat get a chance to prove myself,a? he said.

Following the arrival of coach Steve Komphela, the 27-year-old only managed four substitute appearances, with all four coming in the first five league outings of the campaign.

This means that he was relegated to the bench, with his last official outing coming against University of Pretoria on 23 September 2015.

Karuru hopes to find a decent home next season where he will redeem himself.

a?Wherever I will go I will play and perform. So those who know me and who have seen me play before, please judge me next season,a? said the former Masvingo United player.

in an interview withA South Africaas Goal late last year, former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lifa Gqosha expressed his dissatisfaction at seeing Karuru on the bench and he felt the Zimbabwean winger should move elsewhere
Gqosha insisted the club should have loaned out Karuru as they are not doing justice by not playing him.

a?I canat comment much on him because I havenat seen a lot of him. When they brought him, there was something that they saw on him. So, I donat think it will be fair for the club to just release him without him having to prove himself,a? Gqosha was quoted as saying by Goal.

a?If at all they feel that he still needs to grow then they should loan him out so that he can get some game time because they are not doing justice to him (by benching him),a? he argued.

a?If they feel he is just making up numbers, they should loan him so that he can go and prove himself elesewhere,a? Gqosha added.
