MOSES ‘Bambo’ Chunga is back!

After nearly 10 years away from competitive football management, Moses “Bambo” Chunga made a dramatic return to the dugout on Saturday.

However, his Chegutu Pirates lost 2-1 to MWOS Under-19, leaving the veteran coach to reflect on the pressures of his new role.

“I have lived with pressure all the times in my life including in the womb of my mother, so I am used to pressure, I live with it,” Bambo said.

His side first took the lead before allowing MWOS back, and eventually lost the game.

“We are taking each step as it is. Rome wasn’t built in a single day so it’s a process. Like we came here for a win, but we ended up losing. But I am confident we will turn it around,” said Bambo.

The Dynamos legend has been tasked with guiding Chegutu Pirates back into the Premier Soccer League (PSL), a mission that will test his experience.

Bambo boasts an impressive coaching resume, having won the PSL title with the now-defunct Gunners, coached the famous “Kidznet” at Dynamos, and being coach for clubs like CAPS United and Shooting Stars, among others.

While Saturday’s result didn’t go his way, Chunga’s presence signals a new era for Chegutu Pirates as they push for promotion.

And this time they have to do it with a completely new squad after a massive exodus.

“I think we started well and then gave them Christmas, and we got punished. But overall I am pleased with the boys.

“It’s their first game in the division league and they have learnt how tough it is and that you don’t just prepare against the 11 you play against but the whole army.

“We were second to the ball, we did many stray passes, but like I said it is work in progress, bit by bit we will reach the intended destination.

“There are plenty of positives to take home including our combinations as we were losing the ball frequently,” said Bambo.
