Trust Khosa
Gospel musician and songwriter, Samsom Tavengwa, says he misses the good old days at Vabati VaJehovah.
The 47-year-old vocalist, who left the group in 2010 to assemble Vabati VaJesu, said he learnt a lot during his stint with Vabati VaJehovah.
“I’m now my own man, but I can’t forget the good old days and memories we created as a group with the Magaya brothers.
“We made history as the first group to record our choral music and it was embraced by the masses because we were distinct in our own way.
“A number of groups were then inspired by us as they followed suit, but we had already captured the hearts of many,” he said.
With many people expecting the group to continue dominating, Tavengwa shocked fans when he left the group.
“I left the group amicably. I wanted to start something of my own and it really worked.
“However, it’s not an easy journey in showbiz. The major challenge I face is money for studio time while music promoters shun us.”
Tavengwa, who has just recorded an album titled Virus (Manyonganise), believes he can make it to the top with proper marketing and sound management.
“I worked with Gibson Makumbe on this project where he advised me to rope in a professional manager if I entertain hopes of making it to the top.
“I have been doing so many things by myself, which is very bad. I am going to take Mr Makumbe’s advice,” he said.
Tavengwa said he will not throw in the towel.
“I am one person who hardly gives up when I set my eyes on something. I believe in hard work and I trust the process.
“In showbiz, you need to be strong to overcome the challenges we face,” he said.
