Makandida Chamboko Beitbridge Correspondent
A Beitbridge woman found in possession of 228 grammes of mbanje stunned a court when she said she uses the drug to treat her womb. Mildred Bandama, 24, appeared before Beitbridge magistrate Gwineth Drawo on charges of possessing the illegal drug. Patrol police officers arrested her at her home in Dulibadzimu suburb on Monday last week following a tip off from members of the public.

They recovered a black plastic bag containing the drug, which was used as an exhibit in court.

Bandana, who could not disclose the nature of her health problem, said she drank the juice from the illegal herb or used it by way of steaming.
She was convicted on her own plea of guilty and sentenced to two months in prison, which were conditionally suspended for three years.

The magistrate advised Bandana to use legal means for treatment. Jabulani Mberesi stood for the State.
