THE National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) Bulawayo Province athletics season is set to start on February 13. Head-in-charge of the sport, Njabulo Bango confirmed that the calendar for all competitions is out. “The calendar is out, we are starting our competitions next week so all schools should finalise their preparations,” said Bango.
On February 13 the athletes will engage each other in the cross-country with track and field set for the next day at cluster level.
The second event will be the districts competitions on February 27 and 28.
Bulawayo Metropolitan Province has five districts, Mzilikazi, Khami, Reigate, Bulawayo Central and Imbizo.
The provincial finals will be held at White City Stadium in March.
Bango challenged schools to resist age-cheating so that they could promote deserving talent.
“Schools must stop cheating, we don’t want to go with over-aged children and get disqualified at the national finals like what happened to most provinces last year.
“Every kid must compete in his/her right age-group so that everyone has a fair chance.
“I’m positive if there is no age-cheating at national finals we can bring a number of gold medals,” he said.
Bango, who is also head-in-charge for drum majorettes, confirmed that the dates for the finals of the discipline had been set.
“We have also set the dates for drum majorettes and quiz for this term,” he said.
The quiz first round is set for Friday, with the districts set for March 5 and the national finals will be at the National Museum on March 7.
Drum majorettes will start on February 19 with the zonal finals while the district championships will be on March 5 and provincials on March 19.
