UK-BASED gospel artist Matildah Tekeshe says she wants to be a polished gem.
She has been rocking the airwaves on Nyami-Nyami FM with her song Makagadzirira Here?
The talented singer and songwriter recorded her first album Kugona KwaMwari, in 2012 followed by Mukana Uripo, in 2015.
Tekeshe released her third album The Kingdom of God in 2018.
She is currently working on her fourth album Jehovah Yahweh, which will be released soon.
She said her musical journey started at Highfield 2 High, where she led the Scripture Union as a chairperson, between 1992-93.
Tekeshe said at church level she led a powerful Praise and Worship team in Chitungwiza under the leadership of Bishop Roland and Rachel Mandizera.
She then packed her bags and settled in the UK in 2010.
Tekeshe said it has been an amazing journey.
“Growing up, I was a very reserved, quiet and shy person.
“I never dreamt of standing in front of people speaking, teaching, or singing,” said Tekeshe.
She said God used her sister, Maraba, to prepare her for this journey.
Tekeshe said Maraba taught her how to fast and pray.
“Maraba would write many songs in a booklet and would always ask me to practice with her.
“Our voices blended well, and we used to present songs together in church.
“I used to be incredibly nervous to the point of shaking while singing,” said Tekeshe.
“After some years of singing together with my sister, I grew out of that fear and gained confidence to stand in front of people and minister.”
Tekeshe has ministered at The Harvest International Festival in Bedford and had a successful concert at The Bedford Corn Exchange Festival in September 2017.
It featured Madam Boss, Queen Patience, Setina Mandiveyi and Nursel, Ivy Maguraushe, and Bren Mupawere.
Tekeshe also hosted a concert “Festival of Praise” in Zimbabwe in August 2019.
It featured Mathias Mhere, Evangelist Mai Mackenzie, Eleana Makombe, Nyasha Mutongwizo, Alpha Gatsi Ngoni and Alice Shumi Marandure. Samantha Kureya (Gonyeti) and Maggie of the Bus Stop TV, were the event directors.
In March 2020, Tekeshe ministered at The Flame Conference which was hosted by GC Assemblies of God in Zimbabwe.
She sang at the “Free to Worship 5 Concert.”
