A 33-YEAR-OLD MAN from Plumtree beat up his mother, demanding that she exhume the body of his brother who was buried in his absence.

Greater Ndlovu had to flee from her home and put up at a relative’s for three months after her son Evans threatened to “send her to her ancestors” if she ever dared to set foot at her homestead again.

At one time she slept in the bush for three weeks
Evans, from Bezu Side, appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware to answer to a charge of physical abuse.

Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi said on 10 November 2025 around 2 PM, Ndlovu punched Greater multiple times, injuring her right eye.

Evans tried to force her to exhume his brother’s body.

When she refused, he struck her on the head with an iron bar, saying: “I want to send you to your ancestors today.”

Fearing for her life, Greater fled, leaving Evans behind, and he threatened to kill her if she ever returned home.

Greater stayed away for three months at a relative’s house.

Despite attempts from relatives and the village head to convince Evans to respect his mother, he continued threatening to kill her.

Greater felt unsafe and refused to go back to her home, ending up sleeping in the bush for three weeks.
She eventually reported the matter to the police leading to Evans’ arrest.
