The upcoming edition of Chill and Gin promises a shift from the usual DJ-driven formula, placing live musicianship at the centre of Bulawayo’s Sunday experience.
The March 8 showcase doubles as the Bulawayo leg of a national tour headlined by “Guitar Sangoma” Sylent Nqo. For Nqo, fresh from a breakthrough 2025 that included international deals and triple gold success with Huya, the stop is more than a performance; it is a homecoming and a reconnection with the grassroots support base that shaped his rise.
Organisers say this year marks a return to live artistry.
“While past editions followed the popular DJ trend, 2026 is about elite musical artistry and the raw energy of live performance,” they said.
In a rare move, the line-up was partly fan-driven, with audiences voting for acts they wanted to see. That process secured a slot for former Roil Bulawayo Arts Award nominee Bhila, whose live shows and recent album have strengthened his local following. Crowd favourite Kead Wikead also features, bridging established and emerging talent.

“I see this as a chance to show the touring crew what we’re working with and that the city’s got talent and we’re not just a side show. It’s about representing our sound, our vibe, building relations, and more importantly, learning from others,” Bhila said.
The 2pm to 10pm slot is deliberate.
“The afternoon slot is designed for those who want to actually hear the music and engage with the culture,” organisers said, adding that the relaxed setting allows audiences to appreciate the craft behind the performances.
The inclusion of South Africa’s Phila Dlozi alongside Sylent Nqo signals growing regional collaboration, positioning Bulawayo within a broader Southern African music conversation.
Bhila believes the diversity will define the show.
“He is bringing a whole different vibe, and I’m dishing a different vibe as well, so is Phila Dlozi, so I guess the show will be balanced and diverse. People will have a good time.”
The tour began in Harare and will move on to Mutare, Masvingo and Chinhoyi before closing in the capital.
