His promise is to regain the seat from MDC-T.
“The MDC has failed the people big time and its payback for them. I greatly applaud the veteran leader His Excellency President Robert Mugabe for he has proved to be a seasoned leader across the globe; this has inspired me from my tender age. I am really overwhelmed and happy to represent the people,” he said
Born in Macheke in March 1980, on the eve of independence in 1980, Cde Mudambo says he is proud to be representing Zanu-PF, a party which brought the independence he is enjoying.
“I was born at independence which meant I did not experience the vagaries of the colonial system. The knowledge I have of that time is what I got from my seniors in the party and the history books.
“That was indeed a difficult time for blacks in the country and I feel it is important that we youths, especially us born frees, make sure that there is no return to such a rabid system,” he said.
“Our task is simple and is to safeguard this revolution. The only way we can honour our fathers President Mugabe, Mdala Joshua Nkomo, Dr Mzee, Cde Josiah Tongogara among others is to vote resoundingly for the party. They made their contributions and it is important that the younger generation preserve what we got through the shedding of blood. Youths are the vanguard of the country’s sovereignty.
“Like what Simon Chimbetu said in his song Hoko, this independence was watered by our people’s blood that we should not betray them. That is why I said to myself going into this election to defend the vision of our heroes both living and dead,” he said.
Cde Mudambo said for him it was not by incident that he joined the party as he was born to a family supportive of Zanu-PF. From a tender age he was drawn to the revolutionary party that has stood as the epitome of the wishes of the people.
“Zanu-PF and the people are the same. The party stands for the wishes of the people. It mirrors the people’s aspirations which are proper housing, ownership of land and resources and above all control of their destiny. This is where we differ with the other parties that have made sure their ideologies are driven either by the west of selfish ends,” he said.
Cde Mudambo said it was good that Zimbabwe had the inclusive Government.
“That tortuous period has shown the people that the MDC formations had no agenda and can never be trusted with the nation,” Cde Mudambo said.
“I urge all Zimbabweans to think about the country and their future first before casting their vote on July 31. Fellow Zimbabweans this is our year, a year to exorcise ourselves of the ghost of Britain and America masquerading as the MDC-T,” he said.
Born to a family of three boys, Cde Mudambo went to school at Seke 11 Primary and Seke 2 High School for Junior Certificate before proceeding to Mt Pleasant High for forms three and four. On completing his ‘O’ Levels he played premier league soccer with Black Aces only to quit when the club was relegated.
Cde Mudambo once featured for the Zimbabwe Under 17 national soccer team but decided to hang his boots to focus on his private business.
“I was also a part time contractor specialising in erecting of pre-cast walls and brick perimeter walls. So when the team was relegated I decided to concentrate on the business.
I was not a disappointment because I managed to keep the family fed. At that time I was staying in Hatcliffe 1.
“I later got a stand through a co-operative under the Zanu-PF housing programmes. This is where I stay and hope to continue to stay. If elected into the National Assembly, I have no wish to move to the leafy suburbs of the city because I am a people’s servant.
“I am a full time farmer and transport operator. I want to thank President Mugabe and Zanu-PF for opening up opportunities to the people and for giving people land because I am one person who is enjoying the benefits of owning the land,” he said.
Cde Mudambo said he had not waited for the elections to start projects benefiting the people as he had been filling pot holes on the main roads since last year. He has also sunk a borehole and erected tanks that are providing water to parts of Hatcliffe.
“If you are familiar with Hatcliffe suburb I am sure you are aware of the perennial water problems in the area. As resident of the suburb I know the magnitude of water problems.
“This forced me to sink that borehole so that my people also get clean water. I also have a water bowser providing water to areas far away from the boreholes,” he said.
Cde Mudambo has also helped source roofing material and donated furniture for Grace Mugabe Primary School in the area.
“These projects will be sustained. I am not doing this for the election but for the love of my people.” he said.
Cde Mudambo is married to Roseline Gore and the couple has two kids.
He joined full time politics in 1999 starting at the cell level. He was later elevated to the branch as secretary for transport and welfare in the Zanu-PF Borrowdale 2 branch. He still holds the same position.
If elected to parliament Cde Mudambo said he had in place a development plan for his constituency that is among the less developed in the province. He said he was prepared to work with all people in the constituency regardless of political affiliation.
“My vision is development. I want to make sure the area has enough water supplies and tarred (road) network.
“I have also instituted the free medical assistance programme for people of Hatcliffe and that will continue whether I win or not. I started most of the programmes more than three months ago; way back before there was talk of elections.
“I wonder where Theresa Makone of the MDC-T put the US$50 00 CDF money she got from the treasury.
“That money could have brought so much for the people but there nothing on the ground from it. That is the danger of choosing someone who does not live in the constituency,” he said.
