THE International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup is expected to significantly boost tourism in Zimbabwe, highlighting the strong link between sport and travel while showcasing the country’s rich culture, heritage and hospitality.

The global junior cricket showpiece, co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia, got underway today, bringing together the world’s best emerging cricket talent and opening Zimbabwe’s doors to visitors from across the globe.

In his welcome remarks published in the tournament handbook, Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup presents a unique opportunity for visitors to experience more than just cricket.

“The Cricket World Cup is more than cricket; it is about connection, culture and celebration. Fans can expect a vibrant African cricket experience marked by colour, rhythm, warmth and unmistakable hospitality,” said Mukuhlani.

He said the tournament provides an ideal platform to promote Zimbabwe as a prime tourism destination, with visitors encouraged to explore attractions beyond the boundary rope.

“Beyond the boundary rope, Zimbabwe offers unforgettable experiences. From the majesty of Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, to rich heritage sites, wildlife, cuisine and welcoming communities, we invite visitors to explore a country that leaves a lasting impression long after the final ball is bowled,” he said.

Already, several participating countries have taken time to explore some of Zimbabwe’s major tourist attractions, underscoring the growing synergy between international sport and tourism development.

Mukuhlani thanked the ICC for the confidence it has shown in Zimbabwe Cricket, as well as Government for its unwavering support.

“Their partnership ensures a tournament that is safe, seamless and proudly Zimbabwean,” he said.

Turning to the teams and supporters, Mukuhlani urged the young cricketers to seize the moment, while calling on fans to create an electric atmosphere.

“To the players: be bold, play fearless cricket and embrace the moment. To the fans: bring the colour, the noise and the energy,” he said.

Zimbabwe Cricket, he added, is honoured to host the world at such a prestigious event.

“Zimbabwe Cricket is proud to welcome the world to the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026.”

Mukuhlani described the tournament as a critical stepping stone in the careers of future cricket stars.

“The ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup is cricket’s proving ground — where talent meets pressure, potential meets opportunity and young players take their first decisive steps onto the international stage.

“It is a tournament that rewards courage, character and clarity of purpose. Many of the world’s greatest players announced themselves here and in 2026, a new generation will do the same on African soil.”

He said Zimbabwe fully understands the significance of the journey young players embark on at this level.

“Zimbabwe understands this journey. Our own cricketing story has been shaped by resilience, ambition and belief. These values define who we are as a cricketing nation and as a people, and they underpin our readiness to host a tournament of this magnitude,” he said.

With 41 matches scheduled over 23 action-packed days, Mukuhlani said the country is prepared to deliver a memorable event.

“Across 41 matches and 23 high-energy days, the world’s best young cricketers will compete with intensity, pride and purpose, and Zimbabwe is ready to meet the moment.”

He also noted the historic and symbolic value of the local venues set to host matches.

“Zimbabwe’s three venues — Harare Sports Club, Queens Sports Club and Takashinga Cricket Club — are grounds rich in history, atmosphere and meaning, places where lessons are learned quickly and futures can change in a single session.

“They are ready to deliver a world-class cricket experience for players, officials and fans alike.”

As the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup gets underway, Zimbabwe stands to benefit not only from thrilling cricket action but also from increased tourism, global visibility and cultural exchange, reinforcing sport’s powerful role as a driver of national development.
