JUNIOR Makunike’s mother has dismissed social media claims that her son disappeared after receiving US$20 000 in signing-on fees from newly promoted Hard Rock FC.
Thandie Makunike said her son is instead attending trials with an Egyptian club, contradicting posts suggesting he was spotted in South Africa.
“All these are lies that are meant to tarnish my son’s image. The person who posted these lies is based in the United Kingdom and wanted to be my son’s manager, but we refused. That is when he started soiling Junior through his keyboard,” she said.
Hard Rock owner Shepherd Chahwanda corroborated the mother’s statement, noting that Makunike has been in contact with the club and is expected back home this coming week.
“He is not in South Africa. According to his communication with the club executive, he is coming back this coming week. If he fails, that is when we will start to talk, but there is nowhere he can play in any other club without clearance from us,” said Chahwanda.
