Illegal structures to be razed

This followed an unprecedented increase in illegal structures since the beginning of the year.
Town Clerk Mr George Makunde said the town recorded a huge influx of illegal structures from December last year.

“In the past three months there has been a noticeable increase of illegal structures and activities along road servitudes, open spaces, public places and private and individual stands,” he said.
The illegal structures include tuck shops car parks, salons, base stations, hardware shops, cottages and brick moulding sites. Illegal vendors have also become a menace.

“The general public is therefore being given 30 days to provide proof that the operations are authorised by council or to pull down their structures and restore the land to its original state,” said Mr Makunde.
