BLACK Rhinos striker Eli Ilunga said he is humbled by the honour of being selected among the Castle Lager Soccer Stars of the Year.
The forward was in top form throughout the season and was instrumental in Chauya Chipembere’s campaign.
Ilunga ended the season with 11 goals, six behind Golden Boot winner, William Manondo, of CAPS United.
“I am so excited about being voted as one of the 11 Soccer Stars of the Year.
“I didn’t expect it to get to this point since it was my first season playing in the league.
“At FC Platinum, I didn’t manage to play in the league so this was my debut season since I moved to Zimbabwe.”
He added:
“This is a big moment for me.
“I am very humbled and I believe it is going to open more doors for me.
“It’s a big motivating factor in my career and I will push myself to keep on improving.”
Ilunga, who was offloaded by FC Platinum at the beginning of the season, turned a new leaf with the army side.
His future remains uncertain as his contract is set to expire at the end of next month.
“I am still a Black Rhinos player at the moment.
“It still remains to be seen if the club is going to extend my stay.
“For me, it is the club that gave me the platform to perform.”
He added:
“I haven’t received any offer from any club.
“We will wait and see how things go,” he said.
With Herbert Maruwa reported to have taken over the Dynamos hotseat, Ilunga might find himself donning DeMbare colours next season.
