NGEZI Platinum Stars forward, Delic Murimba, has hailed former coach, Benjani Mwaruwari, for transforming his career during his short spell at the club.
The 23-year-old ended the season third on the top goalscorers’ chart after netting 13 times.
He was also voted as one of the 11 Castle Lager Soccer Stars of the Year, for the first time, since making his debut for Hwange in 2017.
Murimba joined the Mhondoro side from Triangle earlier this season.
Benjani, Rodwell Dhlakama and Takesure Chiragwi all coached Ngezi during the just-ended season.
Murimba’s goals guaranteed the club a top four finish.
Tinashe Murasiranwa was the club’s second highest scorer after netting four times.
Murimba is the only player in this campaign who scored four goals in a match.
His relationship with Benjani, who was shown the exit after a slow start, seems to have boosted his efficiency, in front of goal.
“It’s my best season without any doubt.
“I have doubled my previous best scoring record, which is a huge step for me.
“I want to thank my teammates for assisting me in a number of ways and I want to thank coach Benjani who made me realise my potential.
“He helped me to improve my positioning and anticipation.
“I cannot mention everything, but I want to thank him for all the advice.
“It was my first season at Ngezi and it was not easy to adapt quickly, but with the help of the technical team, it became possible.”
He was the last Zimbabwean to take home an International Golden Boot award when he shared the COSAFA Under-20 Golden Boot with South Africa’s Lyle Foster in 2018.
Foster moved to Europe after that tournament and has become a regular in the Bafana Bafana squad.
