I’m a bitter man: Tryson

frustrated by the actions of Trevor Jakachira, said to be Suluman Chimbetu’s manager, whom he accused of taking the event as a strictly Suluman show and not a family event.
“He wanted to pay me to attend the occasion despite it being a family event. Initially, the whole affair was supposed to be a commemoration in memory of the late Chimbetu brothers, Simon, Naison and Briam but I was shocked to learn that the gala was now commemorating uncle Simon alone,” Tryson said.
Tryson also said that he was not happy with the way Jakachira handled the whole affair as it was made to be an Orchestra Dendera Kings affair.
“Has anyone ever wondered why even some of our sisters failed to attend the event?
“Two weeks before the gala I received a call from this guy called Jakachira, who was claiming to be Sulu’s manager inviting me to attend the gala.
“I advised him to inform my brother to phone me so that we could discuss the matter, but I never received any call from Sulu.
“I categorically told him that there was no way that I could discuss with him issues related to our family since he was just a manager of a band and not of the entire Chimbetu family.
“He (Jakachira) also told me that I could not come with my band and I was not happy with that too,” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from Sulu or Jakachira proved fruitless as their mobile phones were not reachable.
However, Pliers Puareni, who makes up part of the management team of Sulu’s Orchestra Dendera Kings outfit, said they were currently locked in a band meeting.
Dubbed “Dendera Bash”, the event saw Sulu, Allan and Douglas Chimbetu performing before a capacity crowd that included prominent figures like the Minister of Media, Information and Publicity, Webster Shamu.
Simon Chimbetu passed away on August 14, 2005, leaving behind a rich music legacy that spawned the likes of Naison, Briam (both late), Allan, Sulu, Tryson, Douglas and Saiwe.
However, the family has been riddled with disputes over who is the heir apparent to the music throne that Simon left behind.
