CELEBRATED Afro-jazz crooner, Alexio Kawara, is embracing the journey of ageing gracefully as he approaches his 48th birthday on November 28.
With 26 years in the music industry, the frontman of Shades of Black Band attributes his longevity to God’s grace, viewing this milestone as a call to discipline and maturity.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Kawara expressed his excitement as the countdown to his big day intensifies.
“It’s a beautiful feeling to grow older but it also reminds me to act like an adult and let go of some immature behaviour I used to exhibit before,” he said.
“In my spare time, I engage with young people on street corners, sharing insights about life and how they can improve their circumstances. I may not know it all but I’m willing to share the little I have with them.”
Known as the “Street Preacher,” Kawara finds it increasingly easy to connect with the youth.
“I have dedicated myself to offering wise counsel and doing my best to assist them during these challenging times, especially concerning mental health issues.
“I also run a school where I provide free counselling sessions for young children and I thoroughly enjoy that work.”
Expressing gratitude for God’s mercy, Kawara said:
“I’m incredibly thankful for this life, especially since many of my peers did not make it this far.
“I have lost many friends in showbiz, and I can only give thanks to God for what He has done for me and my family.”
As the year comes to a close, Kawara is determined not to finish this year empty-handed.
“I have much in store for my fans, starting with my birthday single titled ‘Tavharisa,’ which will be released on November 28.
“We are celebrating God’s favour and goodness with this track, and I hope it resonates with many of my fans.”
Having scaled back on performances to focus on God’s ministry in recent years, Kawara has managed to balance his schedule.
“In 2025, I lost count of the private shows I’ve done. For public performances, I can safely say there were close to 10 or so, as fans have been requesting more from me.”
The multitasking crooner said he now spends a significant amount of time composing and writing new music.
“It’s amusing that I’m dedicating so much time to creating fresh material.
“I want to be remembered as a determined artist who succeeded in his career, which is why I’m focusing more on music at home.”
Kawara boasts a rich discography, including hits such as “Musikana Akanaka,” “Tinodanana,” “Chihwande Hwande,” “Unombozviitirei,” and “Shaina.”
“I’m focused and grounded in God’s word. My career is becoming more professional because of God’s influence in my life.”
Approaching his 48th birthday, just two years shy of the Golden Jubilee, Kawara’s wish is to be remembered as a game-changer in the entertainment industry.
