“Zimbabwe will never be a colony again. These elections should send a clear message to western countries that the country is not for sale hence people should vote resoundingly for President Mugabe and Team Zanu-PF. “I am the man of people and I will certainly promote self-reliance and be with the people all the time. I will not be going to Parliament to get money like what the MDC parliamentarians are doing but to raise people’s concerns,” said Cde Kevin Muzvidziwa, Zanu-PF aspiring MP for Bulawayo East.
The constituency is one of the hotly contested in the city. Some pundits have said the main race would be between Mr David Coltart (MDC) and Ms Thabita Khumalo (MDC-T) as their parties are dominant in the city. However, Cde Muzvidziwa said he will surprise all and sundry and emerge the winner since he is promising true leadership and faithful representation.
“Zanu-PF is a party which promotes unity among all tribes in the society and upholds Zimbabwean culture. We do not want to promote homosexuality. My aim is to empower people so that they get money for their living.
“We do not want youths who are lazy. We have gold claims in the constituency that need to be tapped hence this will be the opportunity for youths to bring their proposals so that they can participate in reviving the economy,” said the ever-smiling Cde Muzvidziwa.
A successful businessman, Cde Muzvidziwa owns several furniture shops in the city. He did “O” Level at Gokomere High in Masvingo and his “A” Level at Victoria High School also in Masvingo.
He is holder of a diploma in marketing. Cde Muzvidziwa once worked in many high profile companies. One of the famous companies he worked for is the African Banking Corporation (ABC) as an accounts manager.
He is the first born in his family. His father, Cde Partson Leader Muzvidziwa is the second black mayor of Masvingo. Cde Muzvidziwa is married to Moreblessing and the couple has two children. He is Zanu-PF secretary for legal affairs in the GT Sibanda District (Ward Three) in Bulawayo.
Said Cde Muzvidziwa:
“There are several problems that are affecting people in this constituency. There are two primary schools that are not enough to meet demand and the secondary school that is here is privately-owned hence maids and grounds men cannot afford to pay schools fees because they are expensive. We need more schools and clinics. At the moment there is only one clinic in Ward 4 and this is very bad.
“Under my leadership, I will call for the indigenisation of Old Nic Mine so that more money can be channelled through development of the constituency. Through this money, we will also rehabilitate roads.
“I talked to mine workers and they told me that they are not getting their shares as required under the indigenisation. That should be addressed with immediate effect because we want citizens to benefit from these natural resources.”
Cde Muzvidziwa is not simply promising people what he would do if they elect him into Parliament. He is already doing a lot to empower the community. He is encouraging and supporting women in poultry projects. For men, he is empowering them through piggery.
To the doubting Thomases that don’t believe in Zanu-PF policies, he said people should not be misled by the MDC formations that are advancing western ideologies. He said the revolutionary party is the only party that has people-centered policies.
He said:
“People must understand that Zanu-PF is the only party that can take the country forward. We stand for the people, by the people and guided by the people. Look at the inclusive Government, the MDC formations were busy clamouring for allowances, cars and hefty salaries. Is this the same crop of people citizens want?
“You can’t compare the Zanu-PF leadership with that of MDC. MDC is the party with people without morals, look at Morgan Tsvangirai; he is bent on satisfying his sexual desire. People must now wake up and realise that Team Zanu-PF with President Mugabe as the leader is the solution to their problems.”
Despite Bulawayo being seen as a stronghold of the MDC formations, Cde Muzvidziwa said he is optimistic that he is going to give Zanu-PF a seat in the city. Since the formation of MDC in 1999 and elections in 2000, Zanu-PF has not won a seat in Bulawayo in the National Assembly. It however, did in the Senate when the first senatorial elections were held some eight years ago. Mr Tsvangirai’s faction boycotted this election.
Cde Muzvidziwa said through the people driven projects that the party is promoting and his zeal to lead people in his constituency, victory is certain.
“I am prepared to lead people and represent them in the National Assembly. I am not a leader who will buy people alcohol or promise lies. Bulawayo East is in bad shape and the former incumbent (Ms Thabita Khumalo) was busy calling for prostitution to be legalised. Industries are closing down and others relocating and no one from the MDC formations was vocal about the issue in Parliament.
“Employment problems will be solved, as President Mugabe said during the launch of our manifesto in Harare that the Zanu-PF Government is aiming to unlock nearly $2 trillion in the country’s economy as well as improving the lives of millions of Zimbabweans,” said Cde Muzvidziwa.
He encouraged party members to remain united as they go for elections and also pursue the Bhora Mugedhi/Ibhola Egedini call that the party is pushing. He said the party is destined for victory because of its track record as a liberation movement, which gave the people their vote, democracy and their humanity after a millennium of degrading British colonialism.
Other people who are vying for the seat are the independent candidates Kelvin Kasesera of Zimbabwe Patriotic Movement, Norman Kaviza of Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn (MKD) and Tapson Tivarere of the United Movement for Democracy. Zapu was represented by Mr Muhlwa Roger who withdrew recently.
