A GWANDA security guard was caught red handed trying to steal goods from the premises he was guarding.
Khulisani Mpofu (24), of 3154 Spitzkop Extension in Gwanda Town, employed as a security guard at Dickies Restaurant on Friday  appeared before Matabeleland South provincial magistrate-in-charge Mr Douglas Vakayi Chikwekwe to answer to charges of unlawful entry.
Mpofu pleaded guilty and was fined $200 or four months in prison.

On 8 July in the morning, the supervisor of Dickies Restaurant, Ms Abigail Ndlovu (25), discovered that there were some missing goods at the restaurant yet there was no indication of a break-in.

Ms Ndlovu made a plan to see how she could get hold of the thief.
On 10 July, she made a plan to remain in the shop without notifying Mpofu when everyone went home.
At about 12 midnight, the restaurant was closed and all the workers went home, leaving Mpofu guarding the premises.

The keys to the premises were taken by the cashier.
Soon after the departure of all the workers, Mpofu used a duplicate key to open the door at the back of the restaurant and left the keys hanging at the door.

On seeing this, Ms Ndlovu rushed to lock  the same door while Mpofu was inside and she phoned her workmates to return to work and witness what she had discovered.

Mpofu tried to escape but Ms Ndlovu and her workmates apprehended him and took him to Gwanda Police Station.
The duplicate key used by Mpofu was recovered.
Mr Mncedisi Dube prosecuted.
