‘I’M NOT FAMOUS, I’M FUNNY’ . . . D’juni brings the laughs home

LOCAL comedian Denford “D’Juni” Musvosvi is set to showcase his craft when he stages his comedy special, “I’m Not Famous, I’m Funny,” at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music on September 12.

The show marks an important point in D’Juni career, following appearances at local festivals, an international festival in Malawi and opportunities to open for leading Zimbabwean comedians King Kandoro and Learnmore Jonasi.

The ace man said the September showcase will represent a new chapter in his career.

“I’m in the zone now. I’m in my element. It’s time for me and the people who have decided to take this journey with me to take it to the next level. This is what this night is about. It’s about me and real fans of comedy. We are stepping into the next level together,” said D’Juni.

The title, “I’m Not Famous, I’m Funny,” challenges the idea that celebrity status is the ultimate measure of an artiste’s success.

For D’Juni, the focus should remain on the craft.

“I’m not famous, I’m funny. Fame sometimes can look like the main thing, but it’s not. The main thing sometimes is hard to see,” he said.

The comedian said the show will also allow audiences to connect with him beyond his punchlines.

“This show is where I’ll really let the audience in to see what real comedy is, who D’Juni is, and most importantly, who they are. Every laugh will show the audience a little bit about who they are and what makes them tick,” he said.

His approach to comedy is rooted in creating a connection between performers and audiences through shared experiences and everyday life.

D’Juni’s growth has been supported by his willingness to perform outside Bulawayo and test his craft in different environments.

“After this show, nothing will be the same. I’ve done an international festival in Malawi and I’ve been invited back already for another this year,” he said.

“I’ve done several local festivals across Zimbabwe. I’ve opened for King Kandoro and Learnmore Jonasi on their tours. I’ve created and curated the most consistent comedy club in Zimbabwe, The Really Live Show. I’ve done so much.”

Beyond performing, D’Juni has contributed to the growth of the local comedy scene through The Really Live Show, a platform he established in 2024 to create opportunities for comedians and develop an audience for live comedy.
